I was on BAT killing some time at the end of the work day when I came across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . In the listing, it mentions the MSRP, which was $71,675. It also mentions that the M3 is equipped with the Black Novillo leather, at this time the listing then points out that it was a $950 option.
Missing though, is the note that the seats are not electric. They are in fact manual. That’s right, you could spend 70k on an M3, and still have to move your own seat. I knew they were a cost option, my E92 doesn’t have power seats, but I usually see them on the cars with none of the options selected, not one that has in excess of 10k of options on it.
You might argue that non-power seats are better and that they’re lighter, but that’s not the point. I think on a 70k BMW you should get them thrown in for nothing more.

BMW and Mercedes also charge you extra for a folding back seat :(

What do you guess this will sell for?

Manual seats are lighter and you can adjust them quicker.
Power seats aren’t really that much of a convenience.

You don’t have to justify this. You’re among friends here.

Depends on who you are. Also, at that price, what you should get with them is memory seats, and that is truly useful. I had it on my $30k Riviera.

I thought BMW was king of the overpriced options list.

Oh, they are. Well, Porsche might have them beat.

It’s really annoying to get the seat in the 3 in the perfect position only to have someone move it. In the M3, I hit a button and it goes back to that perfect position.

I’m thinking high 30s, just because it’s a coupe. If it had been a sedan, I’d say ~45k.
![]() 07/02/2018 at 16:57 |

Yup, I think you had to get the cold weather pack to get them on my generation of BMW. That said, both my cars have folding back seats which is actually really useful.

Fun to watch. More and more of these going up for auction on BaT can only be a good thing for us. =)

Noted for my next purchase.

T he corollary you allude to here is that power seats without a memory may be worse than manual, especially if they’re an added cost.

Yup, I think we might be at the bottom of the curve now. Prices on EAG are starting to creep up. I really do think the sedans are going to hold their value better than the coupes. Especially considering they only sold 3135 manual sedans in all years of production in the US/Canada. Globally , they only sold 4318 manual E90s. Not that many to begin with, and they’re only going to get rarer.

Yup! Approaching 120k on mine. =)

Nah, cold weather package just gives you the passthrough in the middle. My E92 rear seat is a 60/40 split and in my E90 the entire seat folds down.
![]() 07/02/2018 at 19:28 |
|
Not completely sure on that one, but I know it says it on the window sticker of the M3. I believe you could get it with out getting the cold weather pack, but I’m fairly certain that it was included in the cold weather pack. Then again, my 128i had a fold down seat and it’s no where on the window sticker.
My E92 has the fold down seats and the cold weather pack, but I don’t have the window sticker for it.

Auction closes today, at 32.5k right now. Still thinking maybe high 30s, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets into the low 40s. I’ll be amazed if it goes for 50+.
![]() 07/09/2018 at 08:47 |

Yeah, you’re right on. Hoping it sells in the 40s. $34k now, s till 3 or 4 active bidders.

I’m really curious what values are going to do in the next few years. I suspect well taken care of cars with low miles are going to start appreciating while the high mileage ones with DCTs will decend into the low teens.
![]() 07/09/2018 at 09:26 |
|
I’m guessing that the DCTs won’t suffer as bad a fate as the SMGs, but that manuals will still bring a premium for some time.

You're probably right, and manuals are already commanding a premium. Seems like it's a decent amount.

36.5 - ends in 38 minutes!

Guess it might actually make it into the 40s.
Really makes me wonder if this would go for more if it was a sedan.

37.5 - 6 mins

It looks like there is some last minute action 40k in overtime.

So hard to let one go when you’ve got your heart set on it!
![]() 07/09/2018 at 15:47 |

Looks like it, plus cars with this few miles are getting harder and harder to find.

Sold!
![]() 07/09/2018 at 15:55 |

Think that’s a pretty good price.
Since wondering if it would have done better if it were a sedan.
![]() 07/09/2018 at 16:20 |

I think it would have. And if not, it should!

I paid right around what he paid for my ‘08 with ~40k miles in ‘12. This one’s 3 years “older”, but with 1/3 the miles.

I paid 50k in July 2014 for mine with almost identical mileage, mine had 1k less. Didn't get the comp pack though.
